Lee Swallie/Static

FAB Gallery is pleased to host an exhibition by artist Lee Swallie. The exhibition will be on view November 5th-December 4th. Please join us for this exciting event!

The exhibition consists of several altered and experimental types of printmaking techniques as well as time-lapse animation of “Portraits”. The bold and aggressive lines, created on metal plates and stones, are imprinted into paper and heavily reworked by the artist.

Lee Swallie studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine arts and received his B.F.A. in printmaking at the University of South Carolina in 2008. He won the Columbia Contemporaries Artist of the Year award in 2007 and has shown his work in several galleries. He currently works at his studio in and resides in Lexington, SC.

About his own work Lee says, “Printmaking allows me to forgo inhibition. The various printmaking processes such as etching and lithography bring an unexpectedness that is cherished. Inside this liberating art process, exciting accidents are encountered. A rough or rawness in the work is welcome as well as the immediacy and urgency that occur while creating.”

“The subject of anonymous heads becomes distorted through these various printmaking processes. By exploring, a raw confusion emerges as set in a sort of static. Are they muted and trying to communicate or are they examples of just raw exploratory techniques?”
