Scotty Peek/Daughters

SC State University’s Fine Arts Center Gallery is hosting “Daughters an exhibition by artist Scotty Peek. Peek is an Assistant Professor of Art in SC State’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The exhibition will be on display August 16- September 15, 2010.

Peek’s exhibit consists entirely of black and white photographs printed from film using traditional darkroom processes. Many of the artworks were made by first photographing the subjects with a digital camera then projecting the images on drawing paper where they were manipulated by the artist. Finally, the projected image with the added drawing elements is then photographed with a film camera.

On the subject of the artworks, Peek explains: “I spent most of the Summer of 2010 preparing our house and 4 year old daughter for the arrival of our second daughter. I often encourage my students to make artworks that reflect their activities and interests. With daughters occupying most of my energy, time and thoughts, I decided to take my own advice and make some art about little girls.”

Peek received a BFA from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and an MFA from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. Peek currently teaches all levels of Photography at SC State, as well as Art Appreciation and other Art Studio courses.
